Ujjain town is an important place for religious tourism in the country. The town is home to a large number of mandirs and places of worshipping. - Mahakaleshwar
Mahakaleshwar or Mahakali temple is one of 12 Jyotirlingas. The sanctuary is famous and respected mandir dedicated to Lord Shiva. This shrine which is considered the only Shivling of Jyotirling looks southward.. Therefore, it is also known in the name of Dakshinmukhi or to look south to find the Ling. Mahakaleswhar is the city’s most famous and important temples and is a place you need to see when you take a trip to Ujjain.
- Radha Madan Mohan Temple
This divine temple was established by the International Society for Lord Krishna Consciousness and is regarded as a successful turning point of the campaign. Radha Madan Temple is home to an eating place and a guesthouse, pulling many tourists to Ujjain.
- Kal Bhairava
As per the Saivite culture, veneration of the seven Bhairavas is an important feature of the Saivite customs. Main among these is the Kal Bhairava, supposed to be built by the King Bhadresen, located near the banks of the River Shipra. Kal Bhairava mandir has been cited in the Skanda Purana.
- Bade Ganesh ji Ka Mandir
Bade Ganesh ji temple is situated in the reservoir near the Mahakaleshwar temple. A main place of worship, it has Ganesh’s huge statue, who is the son of Lord Shiva. The size and sophistication of the statue is rare to be seen.
- Pir Matsyendranath.
Ujjain is one of the top tourists draw in this place. Matsyendranath – lying on the banks of River Shipra, in the place of Saivites Natha group is dedicated to a celebration of the saints. The Bhartrihari caves and Gadkalika temple are close by.
- Bhartrihari Caves
The Bhartrihari caves, famous in Ujjain, lie over the banks of river Shipra close to the Gadkalika mandir. According to mythology, Bhartrihari Caves is the place where Bhartrihari, presumed to be the step brother of Vikramaditya, lived and enrolled in spiritual contemplation after giving up on his material life.
Bhartrihari is considered as an influential bard and intellect. The famous literary writings include Shringarshatak, Vairagyashatak and Nitishatak. These had the superb power of the Sanskrit language.
- Chintaman Ganesh
Chintaman Ganesh temple is the prime historic location of worship which dedicated to Lord Ganesha, contributing to largely to tourism in Ujjain. - Maa Wagheshvari
The shrine is famous for its huge statue of Maa Wagheshvari.
- Durgadas Ki Chhatri
This memorial was built in dedication towards Vir Durgadas, the man who played an important role in enabling the city of Jodhpur to be free. It has entirely been built in the Rajput architecture.
Ujjain also has a famous Muslim shrine visited by pilgrims all through the year. Being so popular with pilgrims, the city also boasts of food delivery at Ujjain railway station to provide tourists and others crossing Ujjain by train with food.
