Reservation policy in Indian Law is a term used to reserve number of seats in parliament, government offices and public utility firms. Some fixed percentage is allocated for the backward classes and tribes. In educational institutes also, this policy is implemented where some portion of seats are reserved for the students of backward classes and tribes. The basic aim it to uplift the people who have lagged behind and not able to cope with the developments. These people basically consist of people belonging to a particular community. They may consist of barbers, cobblers or goldsmith.
From time and again, this policy has been amended and the seats have been increased. This issue has always been a source of debacle and drawn lots of controversy. It has often led to clashes and rifts between the various sections of the society. We can recall the famous and most controversial phase that was due to implementation of the “Mandal commission†that led to lots of self immolations and loss of property worth crores.
The government should come out openly and try to implement it in a way that other sections of upper class may not feel the burden and neglect due to this reservation policy.
