The ministerial panel on fuels under finance minister Pranab Mukherjee deferred a decision on either allowing oilmarketing companies to set pump prices in tune with international trend or simply raise petrol and diesel prices to reduce losses of state-run companies, ostensibly because key members could not attend the meeting on Monday.
A ministerial panel may on Monday decide on raising petrol and diesel prices by up to Rs 3.50 a litre and domestic LPG rates by Rs 25-50 per cylinder, besides considering raising kerosene prices marginally.
Air India, Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines on Monday cancelled their flights to the UK and other parts of Europe in the wake of huge clouds of volcanic ash emanating from Iceland. Air India and Jet would, however, operate their flights to the US and Canada by taking a diversion, sources in these airlines said.
