India is today celebrating its 61st Republic Day.In the backdrop of reports of alleged ceasefire violations at the border, New Delhi on Tuesday (January 26) went into High Alert in view of the 61st Republic Day celebrations to begin later in the day. With the threat of terror attacks by the LeT and other militant groups looming large, security was stepped up all across the National Capital region. Over 15,000 policemen and paramilitary personnel were deployed to guard the 8-kilometre-long route of the Republic Day parade. Snipers and mobile hit teams fanned out across Delhi and anti air-craft guns were also stationed in key areas to combat the threat of an air attack, after intelligence inputs of the LeT acquiring over 50 para-gliding equipment which could be used to launch air-borne suicide attacks.
