Heavy rains lashed parts of Haryana and Punjab since last night leading to a sharp fall in mercury. Chandigarh was also hit by heavy rains since last evening flooding low-lying areas. Office-goers were the worst hit as heavy showers continued this morning.
While the maximum here yesterday had dropped to 30 degrees Celsius, the minimum today came down to 19.4 deg C, the MET said here.
According to the weather department, Ambala received 47.8 mm of rainfall, Rohtak 2.3 mm, Bhiwani 11.2 mm, Karnal 8 mm, Kurukshetra 32 mm, Panchkula 75 mm while in Punjab, Mohali got 80 mm, Ludhiana 3 mm, Patiala 15 mm and Ropar received 11 mm of showers till this morning.
The minimum temperatures in Punjab and Haryana also dropped considerably today and settled in the range of 17 degrees Celsius to 21 degrees Celsius.
