A whole month of fun and frolic awaits you. Yes, it is that time of the year again when parents get to cash in all the leaves they have saved up, break the bank and go on a gala trip to somewhere nice with their kids in tow. So if you have exhausted all options for things to do in Bangalore over the vacations and are ready to hit the road, then make sure you follow our tips for avoiding a nightmare:
- Choose the destination wisely
Summer vacations spell mountains and fires in the evening. While this might sound like a perfect break for the adults, you have to remember that you cannot go to a place where the young ones are going to be uncomfortable with the cold. So, choose carefully and also ensure that the place you go to has enough to see and do for your kids.
- Hunt for the right hotel
A vacation with kids is a lot like setting up shop. The location is everything. This is why you may want to give up the cabin up in the hills and opt for a hotel in the centre of the city. Also, while booking your room, you may want to ask for extra beds and pillows, breakfast packages, family rooms or connecting rooms.
- Get your documents in order
If you are travelling abroad, you may need to get in line and get your travel documents readied before you catch that plane. Summer is a busy time for travellers, and it is best to be proactive about these things. You do not want to be caught standing in never-ending queues at the very last moment.
- Pack well
Again, while it may be okay for adults if they land up at the holiday destination and realise they have missed out on packing a few essentials, it may not do for the kids. So pack for the weather and pack all that your little one might need for the holiday well in advance. No matter what you think, your brain is not an infallible machine and you are to forget a few details. Be prepared.
- Food for the grumpy
When you are on vacation, do well to remind yourself constantly of your child’s needs. You may be too lost in a sunset to remember the last time you ate, but your grumpy and irritated child will not. So have meal times planned and always carry a snack or two to curb the untimely cravings. A great thing to do would be to plan out your day before you start with pit-stops and food breaks scheduled in.
Though it may sound daunting, there is no way you should not be able to travel with your children and have a whale of a time. It just needs some prior planning and common sense, and who better to know that than a parent on holiday with their young monsters!
