Gurgaon is situated in Haryana. It is well flourished industrial town which is situated at just 30 km from Delhi. Its close vicinity to Delhi has made it a hub of various activities.
It is also popular as “Guru Gram†or “Guru Gaonâ€. It is associated with the Ramayana. It was believed that Guru Dronacharya who was the teacher of Pandavas and Kauravas gave spiritual instructions to them at this place.
This place was backward till independence, however now large numbers of industries are coming up in this city. The big companies like Maruti, Atlas Cycles etc have sprung up in this area.
With lots of development with improved infrastructure, real estate is booming here with new buildings coming up at an astronomical pace. There are lots of places with tourist interest. The famous Sheetala Devi temple is situated at a distance of one and a half kilometers in the suburbs of Gurgaon near a pond. It is also called “Shakti Peethâ€. The presiding deity of this temple is Mata Sheetala Devi. She is the goddess of small pox. It was held in great esteem throughout this part of country. A large number of pilgrims visit this place.
Another important tourist place is Sultanpur Bird Sanctuary, which was founded by Dr. Salim Ali. It is situated at a distance of 16 km from Gurgaon and 46 km from Delhi. During winters, the birds from Siberia and other countries visit this place. Around 100 species of birds are found at this place. There are watch towers, hide outs and museums.
Gurgaon is best known as one of the India’s most prominent outsourcing and off shoring hubs. There are lots numbers of BPO and KPO in this city. A few IT and pharmaceutical companies also exist in this city.
Several auto manufacturing companies also exist but they are not as developed as they used to be in the past. The presence of large number of outsourcing companies have been on the rise. So this has attracted a large number of job seekers to this place. This has led to the upcoming of big malls, restaurants and entertainment facilities. Demand for such lifestyle options is driven by the demographic shift to a younger, more educated and more affluent population.
