If you don’t want to be one of those people who come to a baby shower only to find out every other person there has bought the same gift as you, we don’t blame you. Finding a gift that is both practical and unexpected can be hard, though, which why so many people end up getting the same thing accidentally. To prevent this, all you have to do is invest in a little research – finding a great gift for a baby shower isn’t as hard as you think, and with a little bit of careful thought and planning you won’t have to be one of the people bringing something that the future mum will put in a cupboard and forget about! To help give you some inspo, we’ve collected a few great ideas to get you started.
Finding those practical gifts
Babies are very expensive, so finding a gift that the future mum can use in a practical way is invaluable. Baby shower presents don’t have to be super cool and fun all the time, and it’s the faddy stuff mum will end up using the least in the end. A nappy bin, while far from a glamorous gift, is obviously something that will be used, and therefore appreciated. Having a separate bin makes containing the icky baby poo smell a lot easier, plus, it’ll likely get used many times a day, so there’s a lot of value in it! A comforter is also a great investment for a baby, as they often mean much more than a good night’s sleep to a baby. Keeping this in mind is also invaluable – if you’re buying a comforter for a friend’s baby, make sure that a replacement isn’t impossible to find. Because, if the comforter somehow gets lost and isn’t replaced with an identical blanket, baby will undoubtedly let you know!
Make sleeping easier
If there’s one thing parents wished for for their baby, it’s a regular sleep pattern. Because of this, helping this in any way you can will be seen very positively by the parents – and a sleeping bag is a great step to try and help baby get a good sleep. Some babies don’t actually like being all wrapped up, so a special sleeping bag can help get them dozing off much easier (due to the handy addition of a zipper). If you’re more considering things that can keep a baby up at night, a thermometer is a great instrument to help parents know when baby is crying due to illness. Temperature monitors continuously monitor a child’s temperature so that as soon as there’s a spike, the parents can administer pain relief or whisk them off to see a doctor. And, because it’s a simple adhesive patch, bubba won’t even know it’s there.
It’s all about helping the parents
Buying baby shower gifts to make the parents lives easier is what it’s all about, so make sure to keep this in mind when shopping around. It can even be as easy as organising a dinner later on for them while you look after the baby, as new parents will find this kind of personal time invaluable – especially when compared to a box full of rattles. If you know the parents well, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find something – even if you’re strapped for cash, a voucher for a couple of nights of free babysitting goes a long, long way.
