Solar Eclipse: Spectacle to Revisit only After 123 Years

century is all set to visit India on Wednesday and is expected to last for 6 minutes and 44 seconds. The previous such eclipse had lasted 6 minutes, 51 seconds on July 11, 1991. The rare spectacle is one to watch for as a similar eclipse will not be visible in one’s lifetime. The long-duration eclipse will only visit India again after 123 years.

“Falling in the International Year of Astronomy, it will be a rare spectacle that will surely interest not just astronomers but common people too,” said Rathnasree, director, Nehru Planetarium, Delhi, over phone on Sunday. “The eclipse will begin at 5.28 am (IST), when Moon’s shadow will touch the Earth at local sunrise point in the Arabian Sea, near west coast of India. The eclipse will bid goodbye at 10.42 am (IST), when Moon’s shadow will leave the Earth in South Pacific Ocean,” she said.Read
