Cigarettes you know are silent killers. In every packet of cigarette, there is a warning written that says Smoking is injurious to health
But every time, a smoker takes out a cigarette, lights it up, inhale and emits smoke forming rings thus throwing this warning in the winds.
Cigarettes contain tobacco which is very harmful to lungs, throat and body of the addict. A smoker is prone to lung diseases like tuberculosis and throat cancer. A smoker is a stigma in the society. Earlier, smoking was done by men. Only woman folk in hills uses to smoke Desi . But now the trend has changed a lot. Smoking has become a culture. It has become a fashion. In high societies, professionals who do not smoke or drink are not regarded the part of the culture. There are a number of reasons which are responsible for an increase in the number of addicts.
Firstly, we can say that as there is an increase in unemployment, more and more teenagers are becoming wayward and talking to this addiction.
Secondly reason may is increase of exposure to media. Media is very much responsible for the rise in this addiction.
Thirdly, some people take up this habit just to be stylish. They smoke to just show-off. But they are not aware what harm it will make on their body. Even small school children and teenage girls are taking up smoking. Once taken, it becomes a habit.
This addiction has not spared any section or age group of people. Not only underprivileged people have taken into this addiction, but there has been an increase in cases where a number of educated engineers, doctors, popular sportsman have been taking to smoking.
A smoker is not only endangering his health but he also harms the health of a person who is standing in his company because smoke emitted by the smoker is inhaled in by the by-stander thus exposing him to the same health hazards. It is high time that the Govt. Must step on the scene to stop this menace from being rising. The situation is becoming alarming day by day. Social Groups responsible for improving the issue say that gift. Is also responsible for making the situation difficult. It is time that some strict laws should be made.
Teenagers should themselves take a vow not to indulge the habit of smoking. Parents should also play a role by checking habits of their wards. I personally think that the media can play a very important role in improving the situation by showing documentaries on smoking.
There should be a reward for those people who shirk this habit and make others also do so. Volunteers can do a fine job where they can teach people about the ways of leaving this habit. It is worth the effort of everyone that this menace can be checked.
